Haro Nachos

Hi Flowers! Today I come to you with a favorite of our household. NACHOS!

Since the weather in Southern California has been more 'middle of summer' than 'middle of fall' the hubby and I decided to fire up the grill and whip these up.  I will admit when I'm in the kitchen I like to be alone. I find the solitude of the kitchen to be therapeutic; its unwinding and everything just flows. Nacho night, though, is one of those times when my husband gets in on the action. We have fun cooking together and even chop up ingredients that the other doesn't like. I cannot stand olives and I prep them for him, or he chops up my avocado which he can't stand.  They do have a few prep steps, but I promise it's really fun, easy, and delicious!

First preheat your oven to 375° F and cut tortillas into 8 pieces (cut in half, then in half the other way, then cut each quarter in half). Each tortilla will yield 8 chips.

To maximize space on a sheet tray (I have half sheets) we arrange them like this. Usually one cuts while the other arranges. Then pop them into the oven for about 17 minutes or until light golden brown.

The chips should look something like this.

Pico de gallo adds the perfect amount of freshness to this dish! And it makes it look pretty ;)

The hubby likes heat so I made him a quick red chile, you can use any favorite you have or like.

Ayyy, and here are the olives. Quick tip, buy whole pitted olives (which are cheaper) and slice them your self.

Isn't this a gorgeous avocado?! Compliments of my Nina's tree. For one person a diced quarter of an avocado is plenty.

Now on to nacho cheese! I will admit, this was new to me. Hubby loves nacho cheese and that got me really into it and now it's a necessity for our nachos. Use your favorite kind, our favorite is Faraon brand. Heat it up and I like to add some milk to make it easier to pour over the chips, you can use as is or add up to 1/4 cup milk (not to runny, it'll make everything soggy)

Refried beans. Yum! Again, comes out of a can for ease. You can totally use homemade and mash the beans up some to pour. I'm not the biggest fan of pinto beans so the amount in our household is limited, hence the can =) Add teaspoon of oil to the pan and let it heat up then add the beans, mix them and again add up to a 1/4 cup of water to get a better consistency.

I like to have the husband grill because, lets be honest, I really don't like to smell like smoke. He grills the steak to a nice medium, you can grill it to your preferred doneness, let it rest for 10 minutes and then dice it up into bite sized pieces.

Once all ingredients are prepped, you get to go nuts!

His and hers. This recipe is more of a guide line, you can add whichever toppings your belly desires! I like to add some sour cream (in the little green bowl above) and the Ricardo also likes fresh sliced jalapenos (I totally thought we had some, oops!)

It has its steps, but its truly easy and so fun to make. When we have these we usually make a date night out of it and pop in a movie (ok, more like turn on netflix but you get the idea).

This is also really great for having people over, just make a whole lot of toppings and chips and everyone can make it their own.  I hope you all enjoy this recipe and let me know if you make it, and if you like it =) Oh! Pictures would be even better ;)

Magnetic Knife Holder

I've wanted a magnetic knife holder for a really long time, and I finally have one! Last week I asked the hubby to look for one and the next day he sent me an email about this one to check out.  To say the least I really like it and it's now mine!

It was really easy to screw on, granted the hubby did it for me and came with 2 plastic anchors and 2 phillips flat head screws.

The piece as a whole is very sturdy and is absolutely great! The magnetic strips are strong and hold on to the knives very well yet allow the knives to come off with ease.

And here is my setup, complete with an obligatory cute chef picture. I think the wood gives it a nice and homey feel.

If you are interested in this strip here is the link for the exact one I have.

Have a blessed day!

How I Condition New Makeup Brushes

Hola beautiful Flowers!

I recently bought the Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary brushes and decided to share what I do to every single new makeup brush I purchase. So, yay for a new post! And yay for new brushes!

This is the brush set

I'm not sure if this set is still available, but its great if your just starting out with brushes. They are very affordable and great quality!

Side note, I love the red box! I have no idea what I'll use it for but I'm definitely keeping it!

First, grab your hair conditioner (you can use whichever one you currently have in your shower not this specific one)

This was my little set up, the sink is on the left side of this picture

Wet your brush with warm water and be careful not to get any water above the metal part (called ferrule)

Squeeze a dollop of conditioner and coat the bristles

(please ignore the cuts on my hand, Luna really didn't enjoy bath time. Cats and water, go figure)

I tend to do them all and lay them out so the conditioner gets a chance to do its thing

Then rinse them very well in the order they were conditioned

Lay them out flat to dry completely

Voila! Soft and beautiful brushes!

When I first got into makeup and started using brushes I came across a video or article (don't remember which it was or by who it was) about doing this to brushes to soften bristles and increase the lifespan of them and have been doing it ever since.

Hope this tidbit is useful for some!

Love and blessings,

Gaby

L' Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Review

Hi beautiful flowers!

Today I'm reviewing the L'Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga mascara. I picked this up a couple of weeks ago on a random trip to Target not even looking for makeup. But I saw it. Got excited (the packaging is adorable!). And I bought it. Yay me!

Totally loving the pink and black packaging!!

The wand is interesting, and unlike most I've used. It's spiky and tapers yet is still skinny overall.  The formula is super thick, which makes sense considering it's marketed as a thickening kinda clumping type mascara.

Above is my naked eye, okay so I put concealer on my lid and undereye. Besides that, I used my eyelash curler and squeezed a few times to maximize and hold my curl.

And these are my lashes after two coats of the Miss Manga. As you can see, it seriously thickens and gives a very good amount of length.

I've been using this mascara since I got it and waited until now to do this review because I really wanted to use it and truly put it to the test.  As stated above, it really thickens my lashes, but it can also super clump them. It also flakes a little bit on me as I finish applying it and a little throughout the day, but nothing too bad. The only thing that bothers me is when my top and bottom lashes are coated, they feel sticky...? I know, it sounds weird, but it does feel sticky and my eyes tend to water a bit. So I end up fidgeting and blinking a lot.

Overall though, I like this mascara. I like the kinda clumpy look. I just use a different mascara for the bottom. Happy mascara-ing!!

Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette Swatches and Review

Yay for my first review!! And first real post for my blog, woohoo!

This palette is a beauty! I had my eyes on this palette since it first came out, and to be honest I purchased it right away. It sat in my drawer for a bit of time, I resisted the urge to play with it because I knew I wanted to take the time to take pictures, swatch and truly test it. It was worth the wait. I love it. The colors are absolutely stunning!

The packaging is gorgeous too! It comes in a sleek and sturdy cardboard box with a magnetic strip to keep it closed. The beautiful artwork on the packaging, and box it comes in, is an original piece by Kat.

It opens up to 12 insanely pigmented eyeshadows and pretty big mirror. The palette is literally representing its name with the colors of the monarch butterfly. Orange, black, brown, gold, and cream are all represented.

(l-r) entomology, telepathy, tiny death, wrath, papilio, summerfly, killing jar, delany, vanish, disintegration, shadowbox, deadhead

My favorite colors are wrath, telepathy, disintegration, summerfly and papilio!

Here are some pictures of my favorite look. I tend to gravitate towards softer looks, but you can easily achieve something much more dramatic with no difficulty at all.

So, I highly recommend this palette! It's amazing! The colors are rich, creamy, super pigmented, gorgeous, and they blend out like a dream.

Happy Sunday everyone!
